some experiences while living with an american in germany

so guys.

i know, i did let you wait for a long time, before going ahead and posting some new stuff in here.
but.
you dont know, how busy a little american hobbit can make you, while having the first experiences in living in germany.
its all new, its all interesting, its all so .. hmm.. wonderful? . i dont know.

ok. i can not really judge it in this way, since i grew up here already, and know all this things so far.

my little hobbit did come over here, from south carolina, and decided, to spend the rest of her life, with me. and of course, against my will, the next few years, here in this country, called germany.
ok ok ok.. for a human, who has always been interested in culture, and history of other countries and continents, it is a good place here in europe, to get some more knowledge, by viewing castles, buildings, areas, and all this stuff in person, than just reading about.

so i guess, i dont have any choices, to change her mind, about living somewhere else.

since im a man, and as a man, im also supposed to make all the wishes of the women, i love, come true, i will have to live here, together with her.

and in this one month, she is here, we did make really much.
furnish the apartment, partwise.. hehe.. yeah. one room is still used as a kind of storage room. (but we will go ahead with this one)
and i took her to places, without telling her before being there.
so that it was more an surprise for her, to spend the time there.

and since the place we are living is in the north of germany (schleswig-holstein), directly at the canal, who connects the northsea, and the baltic sea, it is not so difficult for me, to take her, at places on both sides, of the country.

and you know what? .. she is loving everything so far. hehe.. im good, or im good? ..

we have already been at husum, flensburg, st. peter-ording, neumuenster, kiel (also in an original irish pub), rendsburg (which is the town next to the village we are living), eckernfoerde, damp (wich is supposed to be a relaxing, and rehability-place, after having bad surgeries and such things) and a few other places.

oh.. and not to forget.. we also went to the harley-davidson-days 2007 in hamburg .. hehe.
even i dont really like harley-davidson, since it is not really a motorcycle, than more an investment, and a kind of status symbol . lol
but so it was a good reason to go by there, and spend a day in hamburg.
and it was too bad, that we did not spend the evening in hamburg, since there is the nice red-light district. and for an american it is weird to see prostitutes working in public (asking men for coming with them...) because it is still illegal in america.. but not here .. hehe.

but i know, one day, i will take her back to hamburg in the evening, so that she can see this part of european life, in person, and not just reading about. and imagine how it will look like.
and NO.. for all people, who may think, that im going ahead and make her working in this way.. no way.. no one else is going to touch my hobbit, but me.

and what to tell about her experience in case of the german refrigerator.
german people are used to have a much smaller refrigerator, than american people are used to have.
maybe we german, are know how to cook fresh, and dont need to carry and keep all things in the frige.

but i will behold her in this way. and i guess, she dont have a choice. my frige is smaller than the frige, she is used to have in america. but so far it is still working.

and besides. since im the cook in our household, i know, what to keep where, and where to put, to keep it for longer time.

and the things about american food, like the mayonaise, they have there. and the ketchup they sell in america (i guess, the most common kind of the red stuff is from 'heinz') .. hehe..
the mayonaise i did make her trying, was not so bad, and she is still eating this kind too :)
and ketchup? .. hmm.. since im not such a friend of ketchup anyway.. i did not get a chance to find out, so far.

but what i can say is. she is loving my meatballs, my schnitzel (meat from pork, covered in bredcrums) and all the other meals i did make her so far.

so i guess, i can be sure, that she will not come, one day, and tell me, that she is not going to eat my stuff anymore, because she dont like it.

thats a good point i think.

ahh.. about the 'nice' weather here.
my hobbit did never see so much rainbows in this short time.
since it is raining here really much, and while raining, the sun is trying to come out, almost everytime. her first sentence is always. 'hey.. it is raining, the sun is also shining, and where to hell is my rainbow' .. so i do always take her little head, turn it in the right direction, and make her watching her beloved rainbow :)

so far.

The Hobbit is a little miffed that you claim to be the cook of the household.. Haven't I cooked the last 2 days? And didn't I make you American meatloaf and American potato salad (twice) and you liked both..lol. And just yesterday I did cook your dinner.. and you liked that too.. so I guess you cannot really say that you are THE cook.. although, I love your cooking and you know it.. but give a Hobbit some credit :) oh yes, and did I tell you today that I love you? Ich liebe dich Michael.. :) and kisses wherever you want :)

Quite interesting to see the view of the partner of the immigrant. I'll be back for more.

Since you're showing her the country, you might want to bring her to our Yearly Blogger in Germany Meet-Up (in Dresden this year).
